Brazilian head of state Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been hospitalized due to a brain haemorrhage. The 79-year-old is in intensive care after surgery.
The immediate operation Tuesday evening “went without complications,” according to a statement from the Syrian-Lebanese hospital in São Paulo, published on the president’s Instagram account. Lula is doing well and is being observed in intensive care.
Injured by fall in bathroom
Lula fell in his bathroom on October 19 and injured the back of his head. According to the doctors, the 79-year-old now complained of headaches. The brain hemorrhage was subsequently discovered during an MRI scan. After the accident, Lula canceled his participation in the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. He also did not participate in the UN climate conference COP29 in Azerbaijan.
