From January 1, 2023, Gipuzkoa will launch its new discount plan for all toll road users on its high-capacity network. Beneficiaries include freight transport, collective passenger transport, light vehicles with economic activity and all light vehicles, regardless of their origin.

The Deputy for Road Infrastructure, Aintzane Oiarbide, made this announcement during a press conference in Donostia-San Sebastián, in which she appeared together with the director of the regional association Bidegi, Alfredo Etxeberria.

For example, he has indicated that with the new plan the toll amount for public transport will be reduced by a maximum of one 63% and freight transport that pollutes less can get discounts of up to 25%, depending on the power of your engine. In addition, self-employed persons can receive a discount of up to 13% on their toll for the first time, depending on the number of trips made.

This frequency discount will also apply to the carriage of goods and the carriage of passengers. As for light vehicles, all of them, regardless of their origin, will be able to take advantage of the discounts that users of the Abiatu device enjoy today.

“Europe is in favor of reducing tolls for less polluting and sustainable vehicles, and we will start applying discounts according to the EURO category on our high-capacity roads at the beginning of the year,” he said.

The support varies between the 25% that the vehicles will receive heavy electric, hybrid and gas, vehicles with O and ECO label of the DGT classification; the 20% that will have EURO 6 heavy vehicles, and the 15% that will be allowed to deduct heavy vehicles with the EURO 5 label from their rates.

They also get discounts of up to 13% (maximum percentage allowed by the European Commission) by frequency of use on all roads registered with tolls in the area. From journey 21 to 50, freight transport receives a 10% discount on the toll; figure that will increase to 13% from trip 51. Frequency discounts will take effect from October 1, 2023.

Gipuzkoa’s new mobility plan also includes all light vehicles, regardless of their origin, which will receive the same support that Gipuzkoan owners of the Abiatu device have received until now, including the spending limit of €35.25.

Finally, it reiterated that all these measures, with the exception of frequency discounts, will come into effect on 1 January next year and in order to benefit from them, they must have a system ViaT, TAG or Abiatu. In addition, they must register with Bidegi.
