Home assault – Perpetrator hit Pelosi’s man with hammer

Pelosi later confirmed that the attacker who injured her husband was looking for her at the couple’s home. The man threatened Paul Pelosi’s life and demanded a meeting with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, spokesman Drew Hammill said Friday. Her husband underwent surgery for a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands. Doctors expected him to make a full recovery.

Offender was interested in conspiracy theories
The attacker yelled “Where’s Nancy?” several times, the New York Times and the Washington Post wrote, citing officials. American media found online profiles of the man, according to which he was interested in conspiracy theories, QAnon, misinformation about the alleged danger of corona vaccines and Donald Trump’s lies about fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

Accused of multiple offenses
The 42-year-old attacker broke into Pelosis’s San Francisco home Friday night, Police Chief William Scott said. When police officers arrived, he repeatedly hit Paul Pelosi with a hammer in front of the officers. The attacker is trapped. He is charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary and multiple other crimes, Scott said.

It was unclear how the burglar entered the three-story red brick home in the affluent Pacific Heights neighborhood. Aerial footage showed broken glass on a door at the back of the house.

Wanted to tie up Pelosi and wait for wife
CNN reported that Paul Pelosi himself called 911 on his phone. He could not immediately report the attack, but the employee of the emergency center heard what was happening in the background and sent the police. According to media reports, the man also wanted to tie up Paul Pelosi and wait for his wife to return.

Democrat Pelosi is a frequent target of verbal attacks from the American political right. Ex-President Trump has called her “Crazy Nancy” for years. Pelosi’s office was looted by Trump supporters during the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, some of whom preyed on her during the attack. As Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Pelosi is currently number three in the state, behind US President Joe Biden and his deputy Kamala Harris.

Republicans also condemn the attack
The attack also sparked fears of political violence in the run-up to the November 8 midterm elections, which will put control of the House of Representatives and the US Senate at stake. President Biden called Pelosi to show his support, White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said. On Friday, prominent Republicans such as Trump Vice President Mike Pence and Senate Leader Mitch McConnell also condemned the attack. House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy reportedly contacted Pelosi personally.

Also called to Nancy in the Capitol
During an election campaign in Philadelphia, Biden emphasized that the attackers were shouting at the Capitol, “Where’s Nancy?” He accused the Republicans of brutalizing the political climate in the United States. “Which makes us think that a party can talk about stolen elections and that Covid is a lie – and that doesn’t affect people who may not be so balanced,” the president said. “There is too much political violence, too much hatred.”

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, one of two Republicans on the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack, condemned the proliferation of incendiary campaign rhetoric used to denigrate political opponents and spread lies. “If you convince people that politicians are rigging elections, drinking blood from babies, etc., there will be violence. This must be rejected,” he wrote on Twitter.

9625 incidents investigated in 2021
In a politically polarized climate, threats against Republican and Democratic lawmakers have increased. Capitol Police said they investigated 9,625 incidents in 2021, nearly triple the number in 2017.

Paul Pelosi, owner of a San Francisco-based real estate and venture capital firm, was arrested in May for drink-driving and involvement in a car accident and sentenced to five days in prison.
