A 41-year-old man from Lower Austria and his 12-year-old daughter suffered mountain distress on the Sarstein in Obertraun (Upper Austria) on Friday. The hikers were rescued by rescue workers. They were unharmed.
The hikers wanted to go on the waterfall wall. However, they did not reach the desired vantage point. Below the Wehrkogel, at about 1000 meters above sea level, they dared not go any further. According to the mountain rescue service, they mostly followed infrequently used climbs marked on their mobile phone app. Sometimes they went off the beaten path. As a hunting trail led through steep, rocky terrain, the man made the alpine distress call 140.
Flew out of the wall
Eight mountain rescuers from Obertraun climbed up to the two via the exposed Jagdsteig and prepared them for a dew rescue by the team of the Salzburg police helicopter “Libelle”. The Lower Austrians were eventually flown out of sight and taken to the valley.
