Protest action in Lienz – Wolf in Osttirol: “High time to react”

Date:

About 300 interested people followed the protest event against the wolf to Lienz on Saturday. The representatives of politics and agriculture agree: the wolf has no place in Tyrol and Carinthia.

It was probably the largest protest against the wolf ever to take place in East Tyrol. Organizer Birgit Strasser, herself a sheep farmer from Kartitsch, explains why she launched the campaign together with the association “Save the Alps”: “The wolf also killed five lambs here around one bloodthirsty ewe. It was not a quick, painless death, but for hours on end. suffering.” The aim of the event was to make farmers, hunters, mayors and tourism associations work more closely together to find a solution against the wolf.

Johannes Kraler, a full-time farmer from Anras, had to wail this year with six alpine colleagues about 148 shredded or killed sheep. For him it is clear: “Farmers no longer have any prospects.” Colleague Josef Gietl takes the same line: “It’s not about the money for me, but it’s high time to react!”

Significant support for tourism and politics
Numerous political representatives took the opportunity to speak on behalf of those affected. FP National Councilor Gerald Hauser compared the situation to, for example, Sweden or Finland, where wolves can be shot because they endanger traditional reindeer husbandry. Club chairman Markus Sint of List Fritz once again emphasized the designation of three zones in which it is allowed to hunt the wolf.

For LHS deputy: From Georg Dornauer, who was linked via video, there is no mention of: “There is no place for large predators in Tyrol.” He and Deputy MP Martin Mayerl also announced that they want to change the hunting law and allow its removal.
