Dramatic chain reaction Sunday evening in Vienna-Simmering: several vehicles caught fire on company premises and were completely destroyed. The fire had gone unnoticed for a long time – initially the flames were able to spread unhindered from car to car. It is now also clear how the serious fire started.
According to Christian Feiler, spokesman for the Vienna professional fire service, the fire broke out in Wallagasse. The fire can rage unnoticed for a long time.
The flames spread from vehicle to vehicle. When the emergency services arrived around 1:30 a.m., a mobile home, four cars, a double-cab flatbed trailer and a small truck with tarpaulin construction were already on fire. In addition, the fire had spread to the railway embankment and a tree and was in danger of spreading further.
Gas bottles found in vehicle
The flames were fought with three fire extinguishers, one of which was a foam pipe, and finally extinguished. During the campaign, three bottles of liquefied gas were found in the mobile home, removed from the vehicle and cooled on the outside with a fire extinguisher.
Now it is also clear what caused the fire: According to police spokesman Markus Dittrich, a 42-year-old Turk “carelessly lit the fire while barbecuing”.
