The Mühlviertlerin Sarah Seidel (41) was visited at night by an exotic poisonous animal in her bedroom. The mother of two from Zwettl an der Rodl (Upper Austria) managed to capture the uninvited guest with a glass. The scorpion is probably a holiday souvenir and has been making herself comfortable in her home since August.
Sarah Seidel from Zwettl went to bed early Friday night. After an hour, around 9:45 PM, the mother of two felt something on her arm. “In the dark I didn’t recognize what it was. It felt like a piece of bark, but it was alive. I was just sure it couldn’t be a spider,” says the graphic designer in the “Krone” interview. She turned on the light and was startled: The troublemaker was a scorpion—about three inches long.
stowaway
Her nine-year-old son hurried to help with a glass, which the Mühlviertel woman boldly placed over the intruder just as he was about to crawl back under the covers. She wasn’t stabbed. “It must have been a stowaway from my holiday in Croatia in August. My vet has confirmed that scorpions can survive for months without food.” A sting from this specimen is about as venomous as that of a wasp.
No exotic relatives traveled
On Saturday, Seidel gave her uninvited guest to animal shelter. “Just to be sure, we checked everything beforehand to see if he might have taken any relatives – but luckily that wasn’t the case!”
