Two people were seriously injured in a fatal traffic accident in Tyrol’s Lechtal on Monday afternoon. A German lost control of a rental car and crashed head-on into a rock face. The driver and his passenger had to be taken away by helicopter.
The 36-year-old German, accompanied by a compatriot (33), was driving the rental car along the Berwang-Namloser Landstrasse (L21) towards Stanzach at around 5:30 p.m.
For unknown reasons, the driver suddenly lost control of the car. “The car went over the left edge of the road and collided head-on with a rock wall,” police reported.
By helicopter to clinics and hospitals
According to investigators, the 36-year-old driver and his passenger were seriously injured. After initial treatment at the scene of the accident, the former was flown by emergency helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck. His co-driver was taken by helicopter to the district hospital in Reutte.
The rental car was a total loss. The accident caused traffic delays on the provincial road.
