After rocket impact – large part of Kiev without water supply

Date:

Large parts of the water supply in the Ukrainian capital Kiev were lost on Monday due to a Russian missile strike. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported in a Telegram message that 80 percent of consumption points had been affected. Experts tried to repair the damage as quickly as possible. Klitschko promised that water would resume flowing in the districts east of the Dnipro River in the early afternoon.

This is only possible in some parts on the western bank with the center of the megacity. According to Ukrainian sources, the attacks with more than 50 cruise missiles and missiles targeted seven areas, including Kharkov, Zaporizhzhya and Kirovohrad. 44 of the projectiles could thus be intercepted. The information could not be independently verified.

Hundreds of thousands of households without electricity
Klitschko advised the residents of Kiev to stock up on drinking water at public pumps if necessary. The city government published a map of these fountains. The failure of the water system would be related to damage to the power supply. Klitschko wrote that 350,000 households were also without electricity. For the area around the capital, Governor Oleksiy Kuleba announced that the population should prepare for extended power outages.

Energy infrastructure at the center of the attacks
On Monday, at the start of the new week, Russia again fired missiles at numerous cities in Ukraine. There was an air raid siren across the country and Ukrainian air defenses were active, according to local authorities. According to the deputy head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, “electricity supplies” were targeted, as he announced Monday morning. It was said that some key infrastructure had been hit.

There was an air raid siren across the country and Ukrainian air defenses were active, according to local authorities. Explosions were also heard in the capital Kiev, in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhya and in the west of the country. Attacks on hydroelectric power plants were also reported in local and social media in the Odessa and Zaporizhia regions of the south of the country and in Cherkasy.

minister Kuleba: “Russia fights civilians”
Ukrainian Railways said the power outage affected local traffic and caused train delays. Authorities called on people to get to safety in bunkers and other rooms. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba accused Russia of attacking civilians. “Instead of fighting on the battlefield, Russia is fighting civilians,” he wrote on Twitter. “Russia is doing this because it still has missiles and the will to kill Ukrainians.”

Ukraine speaks of ‘energy terror’
The Russian war of aggression against the neighboring country has already lasted 250 days this Monday. According to the first official information, Russian troops carried out dozens of rocket attacks during the morning rush hour, just like on Mondays. There were always dead and wounded. Nothing was known about new victims in the morning. Russia had stated that it mainly focused on the energy infrastructure of the neighboring country. Ukraine speaks of “energy terror” with the aim of plunging people into darkness, cold and fear, forcing them to flee to the EU.
