It should have been three beers that Keutschach’s mayor Gerhard Oleschko (TK) drank on All Saints. “To celebrate my recent birthday and survive a serious corona disease,” he says. Okay, should. It’s just stupid that Oleschko then got into the car in Klagenfurt to drive home.
He didn’t get far. “A headlight was broken, the police stopped me. A blood alcohol test showed 0.98 per mille,” he describes what happened on Rosentaler Strasse.
„No reason to resign“
Long story short: Oleschko lost his driver’s license – not for the first time, by the way. Says the mayor for the second time. Other voices claim this was the hat trick. This will not affect his political career, said Oleschko, who sees no reason to resign: “I am one of the few politicians who tries to achieve the best for the people. The drink drive was a mistake, there exists no doubt about it, but it has nothing to do with my political work as mayor.”
To depose a mayor against his will requires a referendum passed by the city council.
