The number of burglaries in Salzburg’s outdoor swimming pools is on the rise. During the weekend, burglars struck in Hallein and Thalgau. Detectives mainly suspect local youths.
“Something happened again!” – This sentence from the well-known crime novels of Wolf-Haas inevitably comes to mind in view of the current series of burglaries in Salzburg’s outdoor swimming pools. After thieves in Schwarzach, Mattsee and Straßwalchen, the baths in Hallein and Thalgau became the scene of the crime on Sunday evening. The balance: partly high loot and enormous material damage.
Is there a gang that specializes in bathing at work?
Are such cases increasing? Is there a gang that specializes in bathing at work? “Unfortunately, such burglaries are common at the beginning of the outdoor bathing season,” said Aytunc Bahar of the Salzburg police for the last two burglaries of the “Krone”. A detective is investigating whether there is a connection between the burglaries. The police assume that young people would have gained access to the cash registers of the outdoor pools and kiosks.
“Juvenile delinquency phenomenon”
“It is more a phenomenon of youth crime in the cities,” says the chief inspector. This means that young people commit these crimes close to where they live. “It’s a matter of opportunity,” says Bahar. It is therefore probably not a single perpetrator group. To make it more difficult for burglars, the police advise installing burglar-resistant doors and windows, turning the key in the lock as often as possible and even installing a burglar alarm system. The police help with advice.
