After the escape of chlorine gas in a thermal bath in Fügen in the Tyrolean Zillertal on Friday afternoon, the cause has now been determined. A valve necessary for circulation did not open. The incident became known because several guests had felt nauseous. Seven people have been taken to hospital as a precaution.
Apparently, the night before, some RCDs were replaced and the measuring systems were taken off the grid. After a power outage, a circulation valve may not have opened properly and too much chlorine gas may have entered the outdoor pool. There should be no indication that there was an error.
The thermal baths, which were home to 254 people, were immediately closed and evacuated. After the evacuation, it turned out that the chlorine gas leak hit the middle of the outdoor pool and the swimming island there.
