New Twitter owner Elon Musk is already implementing the announced fee for verification. The white check mark on a blue verification badge now costs $8 per month. So far it has been free.
The symbol is intended to guarantee the authenticity of the Twitter profile. To date, the accounts of celebrities, companies and users with many followers have been marked with the authenticity symbol. These include people who work in politics or journalism.
The new service will initially be launched in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. “Once we know it’s working well in the first few countries and we’ve completed the translation work, it will be rolled out globally,” Musk said in a tweet on Saturday. The update has also been announced for Apple devices.
Elon Musk is currently planning the first major overhaul of the social media platform since its acquisition. Users can expect “half the ads,” better placement for high-quality content, and the ability to post longer videos on Twitter.
