Broken jaw and nose and many bruises: the marriage gradually became hell for a resident of Innsbruck from Turkey. Violence was apparently the order of the day. For 29 years, the woman endured martyrdom until she finally told the police. Her husband was now in court – and given a prison sentence.
They met when he was 16 and she 15. And just three weeks later, the wedding bells rang for the Turkish couple. But when the two came to Tyrol shortly afterwards, the marriage would have turned into hell for the mother of two.
Broken nose and jaw
“It all started in December 1993,” the still-woman told police 29 years later. She is said to have been kicked, beaten and eventually threatened with a knife by the 48-year-old every day. In addition to numerous bruises and a number of hematomas, the Innsbruck resident was apparently broken in her husband’s attacks, including his nose and jaw.
“Had a good marriage with little quarrels“
He could not recall such serious injuries to his wife, but the defendant, who said he suffered from amnesia, claimed in court. “We had a good marriage. Of course there were little fights – just like in any marriage.” But he never hit her, “I’m a decent person, and that would be childish.”
Medical documents, in which a doctor wrote about assaults by the husband as early as 1996, proved otherwise. The 48-year-old was sentenced to 16 months in prison, five of which were unconditional. He immediately accepted this.
