Fierce Fighting – Zelenskyj Complains: “Hundreds of Dead Russians” Every Day

Date:

Russia is increasingly lagging behind in eastern Ukraine. However, this also comes with many fatalities, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy bluntly explained — hundreds of Russians would lose their lives in fighting every day, Zelenskyj said Tuesday evening. He urged Russia to engage in serious peace talks.

“The current escalation of the Russian missile and drone terror has only led the world (…) to respond with new aid to Ukraine,” Zelenskyj said in his video address on Tuesday evening.

Russia continues to try “missile terror”
Defense Minister Oleksiy Resnikov reported on Monday evening the receipt of new anti-aircraft systems from the US and Italy. Most recently, Russian missiles and drone strikes had destroyed significant parts of Ukraine’s electricity and water infrastructure. Since then, several million Ukrainians have electricity for only a few hours a day.

War also slows down the fight against climate change
“Russia’s destabilizing influence confronts the world with wars, energy and food crises and the disruption of normal international relations,” the Ukrainian president said. Even the climate agenda, “I really suffer”, cannot be put on hold. “Those who take the climate agenda seriously should also be serious about the need to immediately stop Russian aggression, restore our territorial integrity and force Russia into genuine peace negotiations.”

According to presidential adviser Mykhailo Podoliak, Ukraine is ready to negotiate with Russia, but only with President Vladimir Putin’s future successor.

Russians kept pushing back
Zelenskyj also reported success in pushing back Russian forces in the occupied territories of southern and eastern Ukraine. According to him, hundreds of Russians die every day, especially in the Donetsk region. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow, on the other hand, denies such high losses in its own ranks. The towns of Bakhmut and Avdiivka are currently the focal points of the heaviest fighting in the Donetsk region.
