Actually, Christian Sanz took part in the Maurer pentathlon of Wienerberger Austria just for fun last year – and he immediately took 2nd place. This year he wanted to do it again and took the win. And all without heavy training in the fitness center.
Only by working on the construction sites for his company Bauhoch3 from Steinabrückl in the Wiener Neustadt district, the Lower Austrian reached the top of the podium. “No, I have never trained outside the construction site. I don’t even have a barbell at home,” Christian Sanz reveals to the “Krone” reporter.
It is therefore all the more astonishing that he mastered the five exciting and above all sweaty disciplines in such a great way in the second edition of the unusual competition in the Arena Nova in Wiener Neustadt.
Discipline “Stessn” as a challenge
The competitions were based on the daily work of masons in construction. For example, a barrel of 40 kilos must be lifted or four kilos of mortar must be thrown through an opening at a target.
The 32-year-old had to struggle the most with Stessn. A stone should be pushed as far as possible from a standing position with one arm. Carrying heavy building materials or lifting a 40-kilogram barrel was not particularly challenging, Sanz describes after the successful competition.
So far, neither the Maurer pentathlon nor the day-to-day work on the construction site have left any marks for the newly elected strongest man in the industry: “I only get muscle aches when I walk with my wife,” laughs the newly crowned Maurer pentathlon champion . No wonder: as a physical education teacher, Kristina Sanz is in the right shape…
