No “Red Wave” – US Congressional Election: Donald Trump’s Star Falls

Date:

No “red wave” and a black eye for Democrats: Republicans are likely to get a majority in the US House of Representatives. The Senate battle is not yet decided.

American pollsters had predicted a “red wave”. But for the Republican Party, Tuesday’s “midterm” elections were a bitter disappointment.

Georgia’s second elections in December
Although the Conservatives managed to gain a narrow majority in the House of Representatives and get rid of the hated Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the victory was much smaller than hoped. And the intended Senate majority will most likely even be missed. Who gets this will probably be decided during the second round in December in Georgia.

DeSantis with a record majority
Still, there was one big winner in the Republican squad: Ron DeSantis was reelected Florida governor by a record majority and is now more than ever hopeful for the 2024 presidential election. Much to the chagrin of Donald Trump, who instead sent threats and congratulations to sent the party member. The star of the ex-US president is on the wane.

Donald Trump Threatened Party Friend DeSantis
During his victory speech, DeSantis was celebrated by his supporters: “Two more years!” – two more years. A sign that the 44-year-old will be targeting the White House in two years.

Trump faction failed
The big loser of the evening didn’t start himself. Instead, Trump sent his favorite candidates into the race. Requirement: They had to publicly announce that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump. But the MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) faction failed mainly in the battle for senate posts in the warring states like Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. Even voters in conservative states found the right-wing views of MAGA politicians too extreme.

Trump wants to run for president again
Trump, who could announce his re-election to the presidency as early as next week, announced on Election Day, “If the candidates I support win, it’s up to me. If they lose, I can’t be blamed!” He then sent a warning to Florida: “I think if he (DeSantis) starts, he could seriously injure himself. He would make a mistake because the base won’t like it!” Then announcing a smear campaign: “If he does go, I might say things about him that wouldn’t be very flattering. I know more about him than anyone else—maybe even more than his wife!”

Many Republicans are calling on the party to correct its course
Conservative columnist Marc Thiessen read the riot act to the MAGA faction on Fox, Trump’s home channel of all places. He pointed out that the country had its worst inflation, crime wave, immigration crisis and most unpopular president in 80 years: “The Democrats should have gone down. But voters looked at the Republican Alternative and said, ‘No, thanks!’” Thiessen shot over the bow: “After this disaster, the Republican Party has to look in the mirror and question itself. We have to turn around!”
