While the social partners in the metal industry have reached agreement on a new collective labor agreement, the haggling in the retail, wholesale and car trade will enter the third round on Thursday. The employers offer a salary increase of 3.5 percent and a one-off extra payment. The union wants a 10 percent pay rise. A conclusion is therefore considered unlikely. The collective labor agreement applies to more than 400,000 employees.
“During Corona we were the superheroes, now everything has been forgotten. It is time for a permanent, substantial wage increase, the trade workers must be able to pay their lives,” the workers said.
Since Monday, more than 300 working meetings have taken place in Austria, during which workers from all branches of the trade have been informed. The employer’s offer so far on the table is seen as a provocation, GPA union chief negotiator Helga Fichtinger said Wednesday.
