From Tyrol to Italy – Brenner: smuggler arrested with five migrants

Date:

A 31-year-old Pakistani was arrested on Thursday by Italian police officers during border controls on the Brenner Pass. The alleged smuggler had five illegal migrants, all Indians, on board.

A check of their papers revealed that only the Pakistani had valid ID, sources said. The 31-year-old is charged with complicity in illegal immigration for dragging the other passengers from Tyrol to Italy even though they had no entry documents.

Large sum of money seized
The suspect was himself legal in Italy and had a permanent residence permit, police said. Officers seized his car and a large amount of money that the man was carrying.

It is probably the proceeds of the illegal activities. The five Indian citizens were deported back to Austria.
