Some of America’s leading conservative media outlets, such as the New York Post, Fox news and The Wall Street Journalare beginning to turn their backs on former President Donald Trump (2017-2021) after Republicans failed to achieve the victory many media outlets predicted in Tuesday’s midterm elections.
Thus, the various articles that have appeared in right-wing media, both liberal and conservative, show an increasingly clear distance between these media close to the Republican Party and the former president, at a time when everyone takes it for granted that he plans to stand for re-election.
The conservative newspaper New York Post (owned by tycoon) Rupert Murdock) this Thursday publishes on its cover a caricature of the tycoon with a huge head, sitting on a wall, saying that Trump ‘sabotaged’ the election half term by proposing the wrong Republican candidates.
In an opinion piece, the journalist John Podhoretz describes the former president as: “toxic”“What Tuesday night’s results suggest is that Trump is arguably the most profound vote suppressor in modern American history,” he writes in the paper, which until recently served as Trump’s mouthpiece.

To The Wall Street JournalConsidered a spokesperson for the financial world, he also points his finger at Trump as responsible for the red wave (the color of Republicans) that these midterm elections were not expected to take place.
“Trump’s Republican candidates failed the polls in states that were clearly ‘winnable’. Perhaps these losses are what the party needs to hear before 2024,” notes the editorial in an op-ed titled Trump is the biggest loser in the Republican Party.
This reasoning is even picked up by the centrist Washington Postwho points out in an opinion piece that “the country said no” to a Republican party “that offered anger and Trump”and added that “a significant majority (58% according to voter polls) does not like the former president”.
As Trump loses popularity, Florida governor-elect Ron DeSantis has been favored by the media, including on Fox News, for years now, Trump’s own favorite outlet: Ron DeSantis is the new leader of the Republican Partyreads the headline of a Fox op-ed, whose author Liz Peek he writes that “Republicans are ready to move on without Trump.”
