The investigations of the Economic and Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA) against Burgenland governor Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ) have been halted. According to statements in the Commerzialbank U-Committee, Doskozil had been reported by the ÖVP for alleged false statements.
The WKStA proceedings have since been discontinued, Doskozil’s lawyer Johannes Zink confirmed on Wednesday, according to information from the research platform “Dossier”. During his interrogation in the Commerzialbank U-Committee with Helmut Ettl, head of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets, Doskozil contradicted himself regarding the flow of information regarding the closure of the bank on July 14, 2020.
Doskozil has cooperated from the start
In the past, both Doskozil and Ettl had denied making false statements in the U-committee. The WKStA had launched an investigation against both of them. Doskozil’s attorney, Zink, said on Wednesday, “Yes, I can confirm that the investigation has been closed.” Doskozil cooperated fully with the authorities from the start, providing his cell phone and speeding up the investigation, Zink continued.
There is no false statement
He had no information about Ettl’s proceedings. The evidence process showed that there was no false statement. He has now heard about the hiring of journalists and has had it confirmed by the Justice Department and the WKStA, Zink said. The Justice Ministry said on Wednesday that the corresponding report project from WKStA and OStA Vienna was recently approved after being reviewed by the Weissensrat. There was no substantive information from the Ministry of Justice.
