For enthusiasts and kitsch fans, it is the photo hotspot in Vienna around Christmas: the heart tree on Rathausplatz. Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) let shine for the first time this season on Thursday and also presented the Viennese Christkindl.
This year, the 200 hearts will light up in an energy-saving way, namely with LED lights. “Certainly in the time in which we find ourselves now, it is good to be able to come up with something fun in between”, Ludwig commented about the lighting.
The traditional pine tree has already arrived for the Christmas market. The opening of the market itself will take place on 19 November. The Viennese Christkindl is called Angelina this year. The Christmas Ambassador is 27 years old, lives in Liesing and is a personal trainer, singer and songwriter.
