Ukrainian troops raise their flag again in central Kherson

Date:

The Russian army has announced the withdrawal of its troops in part of the region, another setback for Russia after nearly nine months of its military offensive in the country.

The Ukrainian army has again raised the Ukrainian flag in Kherson’s main square after Russian troops announced the withdrawal of troops from the area as part of its invasion of Ukraine.

“Our partisans have hung the Ukrainian flag in the center of Kherson,” authorities said in a message on their Telegram account, clarifying that the flag is in Freedom Square, where the main government offices are. The people have come to the area to celebrate the revival and take pictures.

The Ukrainian armed forces have claimed to have regained control of 12 cities in the region after Russia withdrew from the area. The Supreme Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeri Zaluzhni, has indicated in a message to his Telegram account that Ukrainian forces have recaptured 41 settlements since November 1, including 12 in the past 24 hours in the direction of Ptropavlivka and Novoraisk and in the direction of Pervomaiske and Kherson.

The Russian army has announced a complete withdrawal of its troops in part of Ukraine’s Kherson region, another setback for Russia after nearly nine months of its military offensive in Ukraine. “Today at 5 a.m. from Moscow, the transfer of Russian troops to the left bank of the Dnieper River has been completed,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on social media.

This withdrawal is seen as a major setback for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who at the end of September demanded the annexation of four Ukrainian regions, including Kherson (south) during a grand ceremony in the Kremlin. Putin had promised to defend “by all means” what he considers to be Russian territories, threatening to resort to nuclear weapons between the lines.

But in light of the Ukrainian counter-offensive launched at the end of the summer, the Russian army announced on Wednesday that it would leave the northern part of the Kherson region, including the capital of the same name, located on the right bank of the Dnieper, to to consolidate. positions on the other side of this barrier, of course.

For Kiev, this withdrawal is a “major victory” and proves that “whatever Russia does, Ukraine will win,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter.

However, the Kremlin assured that despite the withdrawal of the Russian army from that area, Russia continues to believe that the entire southern area belongs to the area.

The Kherson region “is a matter for the Russian Federation,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said. “There can be no change,” he added in the Russian presidency’s first comment on the withdrawal announced on Wednesday.
