“Acted too brutally” – baby seriously injured: father in prison

Date:

After a month-old baby from the district of Tulln in Lower Austria suffered life-threatening injuries (the “Krone” reported), the baby’s 21-year-old father was taken to St. Pölten prison. The suspicion against the 20-year-old mother was unfounded, according to police reports, she was released on Sunday. The month-old baby had life-threatening injuries and is being treated in the neurological intensive care unit of Vienna General Hospital. The health status is currently stable.

The baby was taken to Tulln hospital with serious injuries – hospital staff alerted authorities and lodged a complaint. Initially, both parents were provisionally arrested. The child had fractures in both lower legs and a cerebral hemorrhage – the cause is believed to be external violence.

Due to the life-threatening condition, the baby was flown by helicopter to Vienna General Hospital, where he is undergoing further treatment. Serious long-term consequences cannot currently be assessed or ruled out, according to the Directorate of the State Police of Lower Austria.

The child’s father stated that he had acted “too brutally” with the child
After an initial investigation by the criminal investigation department of Lower Austria, the child’s father is now in prison: the suspected 21-year-old stated during interrogation that he “acted too quickly” when handling the child. Custody of the child was withdrawn from the parents by the Tulln County Authority.
