Rescue by helicopter – forest worker separates 4 fingers with steel cable

Terrible accident at work on Saturday afternoon in Rietz (District of Imst in Tyrol). For unknown reasons, a woodworker had four fingers cut off when he was fastening tree trunks with a steel cable. The injured man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

At the time of the accident, the 45-year-old resident was in a steep forest area in the municipality of Rietz. Around 3 p.m. he secured tree trunks with a steel cable so that they could be pulled into the valley with the forest cable winch. “For inexplicable reasons, the woodworker had four fingers cut off his left hand,” police said.

Recovered by helicopter
The Rietz Mountain Rescue Service climbed to the scene of the accident and provided first aid. The man was rescued by the ambulance helicopter with the rope and flown to the clinic in Innsbruck.
