Ten people, four French, one Belgian and five Egyptians, were killed in a serious bus accident in southern Egypt on Wednesday morning. 14 other people were injured when the bus collided with a truck about 40 kilometers south of Aswan city and caught fire.
According to the governor of the province of the same name, the 14 injured are eight tourists from France and six from Belgium. They are said to be in a “stable condition,” it said. They were taken to hospital with broken bones, bruises and other minor injuries.
Coach completely burned out
The tourist bus was on its way to the famous temple complex in Abu Simbel when it collided with a truck on a country road in the morning, caught fire and burned completely (photos below). It is not yet known exactly how the terrible accident happened.
There are always serious bus accidents in Egypt – mainly because of poor road conditions, reckless driving and because traffic rules are often ignored. In 2020 alone, there were about 7,000 road deaths in the country on the Nile.
