Two smugglers pursued each other for a long time by the police shortly before Budapest on Monday. When they were forced to stop, they fired and fled.
However, according to the TV channel M1, they were arrested a little later by a special unit. The two smugglers were traveling with 18 refugees crammed into a van.
Hungarian police noticed the car on the M5 highway just before Budapest and tried to stop the vehicle for a check. However, the driver pressed the accelerator pedal and began a long chase with the police officers. When the vehicle finally came to a stop, the tugs fired shots.
Both she and the 18 refugees temporarily fled. In Hungary, which lies on the so-called Balkan route, people smugglers are caught time and time again. Accidents often end a chase. The vehicles are usually overloaded and the drivers are under stress.
