Slow accident on Monday evening on Seefelder Strasse near Zirl in Tyrol: A local driver did not survive the massive collision with a truck, he died at the scene of the accident.
The drama happened around 3:30 p.m. on Seefelder Strasse, in the fairly flat area before the climb to Zirler Berg. According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the station wagon collided with the truck from Bavaria, which was driving in the direction of Innsbruck, for reasons that are still unclear. The car was completely deformed and thrown over the embankment. The driver was trapped in the wreckage, police said.
Despite a quick rescue operation, all help came too late for the 76-year-old. The truck was also heavily damaged, but it is not yet clear whether the driver was injured. The main road had to be closed until about 8:30 p.m. during the cleanup.
