Priorities shifted – Russian headquarters in southern Ukraine moved to the sea

Date:

According to British intelligence experts, the Russian invasion forces have chosen the city of Henichesk as their temporary headquarters in southern Ukraine. The occupiers withdrew from the regional capital Kherson last week and a reorganization was necessary.

The fact that Henichesk was chosen gives an indication of the priorities and concerns of the Russian commanders, according to the Defense Ministry’s daily intelligence update in London on Tuesday.

Defense to the northeast to secure supplies from Crimea
According to British experts, Henichesk on the Sea of Azov is in a suitable position to face potential threats from Kherson or Melitopol in the northeast and to receive supplies from the occupied Crimean peninsula of the Black Sea. Most importantly, the city is beyond the range of Ukrainian artillery, which has caused serious damage to Russian command centers.

The British Ministry of Defense publishes daily information on the course of the war since the beginning of the Russian offensive war against Ukraine in late February, citing information from intelligence services. With this, the British government wants to both counter the Russian image and keep allies in line. Moscow accuses London of a targeted disinformation campaign.
