The president of poland, Andrzej Duda, has stated that “it is probable” that the missile that hit his territory yesterday and caused two deaths “was launched by Ukraine” and that “nothing indicates” that it was a “deliberate attack on Poland”. Duda added in a media appearance in Warsaw that “most likely the missile was manufactured in the Soviet Union” and of the S300 model.
For his part he Polish Prime MinisterMateusz Morawiecki, has stated the following: “what I can say is that most of the evidence we have collected indicates that there will be no need to invoke Article IV of NATO at this time.”
That provision provides for consultations between allies when “the territorial integrity, political independence or security of one of the parties” is threatened.
Morawiecki doesn’t rule out that possibility, though: “it’s a tool that’s still in our hands.”
“Yesterday we witnessed a massive attack on Ukraine. The entire Ukrainian territory was shelled, especially the areas close to the Ukrainian border,” Duda said. “Ukraine defended itself against the attack, so the blame for the whole incident lies with Russia,” the Polish president added.
