During agricultural work on Wednesday afternoon in Ratten (Weiz district), liquid manure ended up in several waters. A chemical alarm has been activated.
Around 2:30 p.m., a couple spread liquid manure on a steeply sloping meadow in the Kirchenviertel district. This was pressed into hoses with a pump and then sprayed onto the pasture with a turret. For reasons unknown at this time, there was a leak along the hose line. The liquid manure that ran out flowed onto the meadow and from there into a stream that flows into the Niesnitzbach. The Niesnitzbach then flows into the Feistritz.
The Ratten fire brigade was alerted and immediately cordoned off the area. The municipality of Ratten dug a dam with an excavator, so that the supply of liquid manure to the Niesnitzgraben was interrupted shortly after the technical problem. The mixture was pumped into a slurry tank by a farmer and applied to a nearby pasture. The stream also feeds three fishponds, one of which had to be pumped out by the fire department. The fish population could be preserved. The state alert center was notified and a chemical alarm was activated.
