Wood stove as trigger – carbon monoxide alarm: family in hospital

A large-scale fire service operation set fire to a wood-burning stove in an apartment in the Neusiedl am See district of Burgenland. Carbon monoxide escaped, the mother, father and one child of the family of five had to be taken to hospital.

Dramatic scenes took place in broad daylight in a residential complex in Neudorf near Parndorf. To keep it warm at home, the wood stove was used. Soon after, carbon monoxide escaped and an alarm went off.

Five fire brigades arrived on site and were able to secure the danger zone in time. The parents and one of the children were affected. As a precaution, they were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
