In the Swiss border town of Basel, a stranger stabbed a taxi driver. An argument broke out between the driver and the passenger in the taxi. The perpetrator then seriously injured the taxi driver with a stabbing weapon. The 49-year-old’s injuries were so severe that the man died on the spot despite efforts by paramedics to resuscitate him.
The prosecutor’s office of the canton of Basel-Stadt announced on Saturday that the perpetrator is being sought. The search for the perpetrator, who, according to witness statements, spoke Swiss German, wore short hair and dark clothing, sports shoes and a backpack, initially yielded nothing.
The crime happened on Friday evening around 6.30 pm not far from the SBB Basel train station, a few kilometers south of the border with Germany. The police are looking for witnesses.
