Tragic leisure accident early Saturday afternoon in Tyrol: A young paraglider pilot fell about 50 meters down a rock face in the Stubai Alps after problems at the start and suffered fatal injuries.
The accident happened shortly after 12.30 pm above the Innsbrucker Hütte at about 2500 meters above sea level. The German, who was traveling with two colleagues, may have been in trouble from the start. The young man – reportedly a 27-year-old man – lost control of the wheel and fell about 50 meters from a steep rock face.
All help came too late
The paraglider hit the snowy terrain. His companions immediately made a distress call. Unfortunately, all help came too late for the young man. He had no chance of survival.
The body of the German was eventually flown into the valley by helicopter.
