Great Britain was the first country to give the green light for the corona vaccine from the Austro-French company Valneva. The responsible supervisor MHRA approved the application for persons between the ages of 18 and 50 on Thursday. There must be at least four weeks between the two vaccinations. That means a total of six coronavirus vaccines have now been approved in Britain.
MHRA chief June Raine said the approval came after rigorous reviews of the vaccine’s safety, quality and effectiveness. On February 1, 2021, the UK government announced that it had ordered another 40 million doses – 100 million in total – of the VLA2001 vaccine. Six months later, she canceled the contract, accusing Valneva of breach of contract.
Available in Austria in May?
In the EU, Valneva expects the approval of the VLA2001 vaccine by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in April for the age group 18 to 55 years. “We submitted all necessary documents to the EMA and answered all their questions,” said Christoph Jandl of Valneva Austria in mid-March. Delivery in Austria would therefore be possible in May, it said a month ago.
In Great Britain, infections are rising again after all corona rules have ended. However, the government strongly opposes the reintroduction of regulations.
