Amidst the debate over the suitability of wind farms, the general manager of the Basque Energy Entity (EVE) has stressed that these projects are necessary to take steps towards a low-carbon economy. The Basque energy entity turns 40 this Thursday and coinciding with this birthday, Iñigo Ansola has been interviewed on Euskadi Irratia’s program “Faktoria”.

Inigo Ansola foresees that wind farms that society aixindar (formed by the Basque energy entity and Iberdrola) plans to build in Azazeta and Labraza are operational by 2025. As he has said, these projects will receive environmental impact permits shortly. “The aim is that they will start to materialize in 2024, and once they start to be implemented, they will be implemented within 6-7 months,” he stressed.

According to the decarbonization of the industry, has emphasized that fossil fuels should be gradually phased out and believes that hydrogen can play an important role in this process. According to Ansola, the decarbonization process will take a long time, “there are alternatives and we have to work on that.”

Asked about the Egypt COP27 agreement, Ansola believes there has been a lack of ambition. According to him, there are always high expectations in the preview, but then reality puts every top in its place.
