A devastating fire broke out in Stainz (Styria) on Sunday, heavily damaging vehicles and a residential building. This resulted in damage of several hundred thousand euros.
The fire broke out around 8:35 p.m. in a carport where two cars and two motorcycles were parked. The flames quickly spread to the adjacent residential building on Kollmanngasse and set fire to the roof structure, among other things.
Neighbors noticed the glow of the fire and were able to alert the family of four, who were able to escape their already burning home. Fortunately no one was injured.
110 firefighters on duty
The fire brigade was quickly on the scene with a large contingent of 110 men from Stainz, Wald, Ettendorf, Wildbach, Bad Gams, Magna, Rassach and Preding and 19 vehicles. The flames were extinguished around 11:30 p.m.
However, the damage was significant and the house is currently uninhabitable. Two motorcycles were destroyed, the two cars parked under the carport could be driven away just in time.
The family stayed with relatives and is now being cared for by the crisis intervention team. The Styrian police are now investigating the exact cause of the fire.
