Fire alarm on Sunday evening in an emergency shelter in Innsbruck: around 7:30 p.m., a fire broke out in the facility for the homeless. Fortunately no one was injured. Operation was initially possible with restrictions.

The scene of the fire service operation was the emergency shelter on Richard-Berger-Strasse. “According to the state of the investigation so far, the room where the fire broke out may be limited to the sanitary area of ​​the accommodation. The fire was probably caused by a short circuit,” said the police.

Facility in emergency mode for the time being
Good luck with bad luck: no one was injured. “Since the fire damage to the building is limited, the winter shelter can continue in emergency mode for the time being,” says Deputy Mayor Johannes Anzengruber (ÖVP), who is responsible for safety, of Innsbruck. Due to the rapid intervention of the professional fire brigade, the fire was quickly extinguished.

Last year almost 3000 overnight stays
The 20-bed emergency shelter of the Innsbruck Red Cross reopened just over a week ago. “For 13 years, the winter emergency shelter RKI has been an important part of the care offer for people seeking shelter in Innsbruck on behalf of the city of Innsbruck and the state of Tyrol. In the past winter season, the emergency shelter Innsbruck registered 2,781 overnight stays,” concludes Anzengruber.
