An 80-year-old driver in Götzis in Vorarlberg lost control of his senses after too much alcohol on Monday evening. The man collided with his car against a tree and rolled over. He suffered only minor abrasions.
The 80-year-old drove around 6.45 pm on Hans-Berchtold-Strasse in Götzis with one or more glasses too many. Suddenly he left the roadway and his car crashed into a tree. The impact caused the car to flip over and land on its roof and windshield.
The driver was unable to climb out of the wreckage on his own, so passers-by alerted the emergency services. The fire service was eventually able to free the only slightly injured man from his plight.
Minor abrasions
The 80-year-old man suffered minor abrasions in the spectacular accident. However, to be on the safe side, he was taken to Hohenems State Hospital by the rescue team. An alcohol test showed 0.9 promille. His driver’s license was taken from him while he was still in hospital.
The car was a total loss. He had to be towed away. The tree also suffered a lot from the impact. He is now leaning on the side of the road. Two emergency vehicles from the Rankweil and Götzis police, a vehicle from the Hohenems rescue service and 20 emergency services with two vehicles from the Götzis fire brigade were in action.
