“Help Wild Grandkids” – Out of Custody: Last Chance for the Thieving Grandma

Date:

Because an elderly woman was caught stealing clothes several times in a row, she faced court on charges of commercial theft. There she admits with tears in her eyes: “My daughter and my grandchildren are threatened with deportation. I will give them every penny left to help.”

Rosa A. had a crying fit after her six-month suspended sentence. Tears of joy rolled down the grandmother of three’s cheeks. “We’ll get your things now and then you can go,” says the jailer to the woman who had been in a prison cell for the past few weeks.

Socks and underwear in it
After she was caught stealing again, four unpaid items of clothing from a major fashion chain were found in her bag on October 31. She was caught a few weeks earlier when she once wanted to steal socks and underwear, another time a bathrobe worth 400 euros.

The judge acknowledged the contrite confession
“Why are you doing such a thing?” Judge Stefan Romstorfer asked the lady. “For my daughter,” the suspect replied, “she has three kids and no job. I will pay every penny I have for her apartment. Because she has been threatened several times that she will lose her apartment. I am afraid that she and the kids have to get out. I want to help them,” she admitted the mistakes. “Please, Herr Rat, give me one last chance. I’m so ashamed to sit here.”

The judge acknowledged the remorseful confession: “I know of completely different cases of commercial theft. I feel they acted out of necessity,” he said of the suspended sentence. The thieving grandmother thanked her and vowed never to steal again.
