About a fifth of Austrians support drastic action on climate activism. These are, for example, pouring soup on pictures or sticking it on the street. However, the vast majority (72 percent) think that little or nothing can be achieved with this, according to a current market survey.
On average across all population groups, 21 percent think the current far-reaching climate actions are good. Without them, climate issues would not receive the attention they deserve. Activists in the middle age group of 30 to 49 years (29 percent) experience the most support. For the over-50s, however, approval is particularly low at 13 percent.
Another difference is based on gender. Women feel less personally threatened by adhesive blocks than men (43 vs. 55 percent). Here too, older people view activists less favorably than young people.
Attitudes towards climate change play a role
Those who do not yet consider the fight against climate change lost are generally more open to climate activism than a pessimist. According to the study, this applies to 32 percent of the 1,000 respondents aged 16 and older. Among them are mainly young people, women and the rural population.
However, 47 percent believe it is already too late to stop climate change. These are mostly older people, men and people living in cities. In any case, the vast majority of respondents (72 percent) do not think that drastic measures can achieve much. The market institute Linz conducted the online survey last week.
