Five injured, four cars involved: A serial accident on Thursday on the Donauuferautobahn (A22) near Stockerau in Lower Austria necessitated a large-scale rescue operation. Two children were also among the victims.
The accident happened in the afternoon. There was convoy traffic on the highway and a 22-year-old suddenly had to brake hard. A 31-year-old who was following behind did not notice this in time and crashed into the back of the car. A chain reaction ensued. While the driver driving behind her was able to avoid a rear-end collision, the 28-year-old woman driving her vehicle behind him could not. Another crash ensued.
The 22-year-old driver, along with her two passengers – a 12-year-old and a 44-year-old – sustained injuries, and the 28-year-old and her one-year-old daughter also required treatment for injuries. The emergency medical helicopter Christophorus 9 was sent to the scene of the accident, but in the end it was not necessary to transport an injured person by helicopter. The highway was closed from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. A local redirect has been set up.
