Trespassing – airport blockade: investigations against activists

Date:

After the disruptive action at Berlin airport, the police of the state of Brandenburg (LKA) took over the investigation. Police spokesman Mario Heinemann said on Friday that six climate activists are investigating dangerous interference with air traffic, disruption of public services, trespassing and property damage.

Five men and a woman aged 20 to 32 were arrested on Thursday and taken into custody during the action at the airport in Schönefeld. One of the men is still there by order of the judge, the spokesman said. He says the other suspects have been released.

Stuck on runways
Members of the protest group Last Generation paralyzed operations at Berlin airport on Thursday afternoon. They had managed to break through a security fence and enter the airport grounds. Four participants in the action would have got stuck near the runway, the police said.

Runway operations have now been halted. According to the airport, five take-offs had to be canceled. 15 planned landings were therefore diverted to Leipzig and Dresden.
