In the night from Saturday to Saturday, three young people in Vienna-Donaustadt climbed over a fence onto an ÖBB site and stood on the tracks. One of them – a 16-year-old – climbed onto a tanker truck and was electrocuted.
According to the police, an overhead power line near the Stadlau train station was the cause of the electric shock. The 16-year-old was seriously injured and gave no sign of life. The alerted police officers rushed to the platform area and immediately began resuscitation measures.
Rescue operation successful
Fortunately, the youngster regained consciousness and received emergency medical attention from the alerted professional rescue service in Vienna. The professional fire brigade in Vienna then cut open part of the station gate to be able to transport the youngster from the railway area in a rescue box.
The 16-year-old was taken to hospital in critical condition. His next of kin are being cared for by a crisis intervention team. Further investigation into the course of the accident is still ongoing.
