The fog was accompanied by dense clouds of smoke in Garsten (Upper Austria) on Monday: a fire broke out in the wooden extension of a single-family house. The flames also spread to the house, which is expected to be temporarily uninhabitable. Eleven fire brigades brought the fire under control.
Early Monday afternoon, a fire broke out in a wooden extension at a home in Garsten. When the first fire brigades arrived, the flames had already spread to the roof area of the single-family home. “The first thing we did was protect the residential building,” said Andreas Aschauer, commander of the FF Garsten, who reported on the operation. “We entered the house with the first respiratory protection team and reached the top floor.”
Eleven fire brigades on site
Ultimately, eleven fire brigades fought the flames. Firefighting efforts focused on protecting the remaining roof structure.
House has suffered damage
“Timber farming is a total loss,” says Aschauer. And the adjacent residential building also suffered a lot: “The house became temporarily uninhabitable. The windows were broken and there was smoke in the living room.”
The good news: there were no injuries, as fortunately no one was in the building when the fire broke out.
In addition to the fire brigade, the Red Cross, the police and the crisis intervention team were also present. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
