The coalition has presented its guidelines for a new energy strategy that also emphasizes self-sufficiency. Otegi has brought about a “revolution of values”.
Euskaraz irakurri: EH Bilduk “munduan egoteko dear modu bat” climate defense aldaketari aurre egiteko
EH Bildu today, in an act that took place at the Euskaduna Palace in Bilbao, presented an energy strategy for Hego Euskal Herria.
The Coalition has stressed that “we are in a historical context of an ecological-climatic emergency and an energy crisis, in which Hego Euskal Herria is in a very vulnerable situation. The problem has a colossal dimension; a problem that we must understand as a great challenge to turn it into an opportunity for a comprehensive transformation”.
In law, in which the general coordinator, Arnaldo Otegi; the program director, Pello Otxandiano and the energy transition secretary, Mikel Otero, EH Bildu emphasized that “the energy transition must be the lever for an eco-social transformation that leads us to other forms of production and consumptionwhich in turn is not possible without inventing a cultural change: a different way of being in the world”.
In addition to the objective of meeting the challenge of climate change, EH Bildu seeks with the strategy presented today “higher levels of sovereignty for the country. In other words, territorialize our energy consumption, take charge of our consumption and thus analyze how we can generate energy on our own territory to achieve a high degree of self-sufficiency; and in turn democratize the means of production”.
The document presented today, admits EH Bildu, “is not energy planning”, but rather “the guides of what the energy transition in Euskal Herria understands should be; a political orientation and the strategic foundations on which the regulation, planning and necessary sectoral strategies from now on”.
Between the “fundamental principlessupporting the strategy is that “there is no option” but to face climate change, the fragility of the current energy framework, energy sovereignty, the change in consumption habits, self-sufficiency, the exploitation of 100% renewable energy sources, the collective management of needs, the public promotion of this policy, the democratization of the energy sector and that the common interest prevails above all.
“Value Revolution”
In this sense, Otegi has defended the need to start a “revolution of values” to face climate change and the energy crisis with solutions “Basque style, defense of a community model”.
The coalition’s general coordinator has said there is a need to “turn around certain values that have spread all over the planet and that have become very strong in all the affluent western societies”.
“We cannot face the energy crisis and the climate crisis if we do not imagine the world and Euskal Herria in a different way,” he reflected, stating that EH Bildu will defend that it is “a community model, done together and that the interests of this country are defended”.
This change in values would put Euskal Herria “at the forefront” and would make the Basques “more supportive, more internationalist and probably happier,” he said.
