Watch out for scams! At the moment, fake e-mails in the name of the Ministry of Finance are doing the rounds again. With an alleged tax refund, fraudsters try to get hold of data from bona fide victims. Please delete immediately!
The fraudulent emails, purportedly sent by “FinanzOnline”, contained the subject line “Final warning! You will receive a tax refund” or “[Erinnerung] Your tax refund is ready!”. It is suggested that the recipient gets a tax refund of 578.99 Euros and that they provide their personal data for this.
Emails are fake
However, this is just an attempt to obtain sensitive data. These emails are fake. In principle, such information is not sent by e-mail from the Ministry of Finance. They arrive by post or as a message in the FinanzOnline data box.
The Ministry of Finance therefore advises:
- Never follow the instructions in the emails!
- Do not click on links or files in them!
- Under no circumstances should you give out personal information such as passwords, credit card details or account details!
- Delete such emails immediately!
