Buffalo shooter pleads guilty to terrorism, hate crimes and murder

Date:

The charges carry a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole.

The author of the US supermarket shooting pleads guilty. Payton Gendron, the gunman who opened fire on a branch in the city of Buffalo, New York, pleaded guilty Monday to several state charges, including terrorism, hate crime and murder. The 19-year-old, who opened fire indiscriminately at a store in a predominantly black neighborhood and posted the attack on a social media stream, has admitted to one hate-motivated act of domestic terrorism, 10 counts of first-degree murder, diploma, three for attempted murder and one for possession of a weapon.

The guilty plea assumes no state trial will take place and Gendron will not appeal, attorney Brian Parker has indicated. In addition, the charges include a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole, as reported by CNN. As confirmed by police sources at the time, the young man arrived at the supermarket parking lot at 2:30 pm (local time). After he got out of the “very heavily armed” vehicle and began live broadcasting what he was going to do, he shot four people who were near his car.

After this initial shooting, the young man entered the supermarket and managed to kill a security guard before proceeding to shoot up to thirteen people inside. Eleven of the thirteen people hit by the bullets were black.

Gendron is a proponent of the conspiracy theory known as “the Great Replacement,” which alleges that political elites use migration to reduce the white population, according to what the Buffalo Police Department was able to verify, which shared a 180-page letter from the accused. . After the shooting, described as a “racist” act, United States President Joe Biden assured that white supremacy is a “poison” to American society. “Evil came to Buffalo and has come to too many places, manifested in gunmen slaughtering innocent people in the name of a hateful and evil ideology,” he said.
