The number of the current 400 self-service stations (self-service stations) must be doubled in the coming years. Swiss Post’s 1,800 branches remain unaffected. Group-wide, up to 2000 employees are hired.
The parcel boom, caused by online shopping, continues to shape postal boss Georg Pölzl’s strategy. Since 2019, sales in this area have increased by 44 percent. Substantial investments have been made in distribution centers and sorting systems. Because, especially in the run-up to Christmas, up to 1.2 million packages are delivered every day.
Deposit packers: ‘Theft almost never occurs’
“Customers want to be able to collect them 24 hours a day if they are not at home,” explains Pölzl. Therefore, self-service areas where returns can be handed in and packages that have been dropped off are greatly expanded.
The number of branches of currently 400 (of which 120 at discounter Hofer) must be doubled in the coming years. There is also a lot of demand for the delivery drivers to be able to drop off the packages somewhere, whether that is in the garage or at the neighbours. “There is hardly any stealing,” says Pölzl.
The 1,800 branches (400 of which are own and 1,400 postal partners) will continue to exist because the market is growing and other services (e.g. Bank99) are also offered.
In Germany, the company currently has 20,000 employees. However, due to growth and fluctuation, up to 2,000 vacancies are open, delivery drivers and IT specialists are being sought. Swiss Post expects a profit of around 150 million euros for 2022.
