156 meters long – 600 million euro yacht seized in Hamburg

Date:

The superyacht Dilbar has since been seized by authorities in Hamburg. The ship is the largest yacht in the world by volume and is said to belong to the sister of Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov. Its value is estimated at 550 to 687 million euros and is 156 meters long.

Hamburg authorities have seized Russian billionaire Usmanov’s superyacht after finding it rightfully owned by his sister, who is also subject to Western sanctions over the war in Ukraine.

Largest yacht in the world
According to Bloomberg news agency, the Dilbar was undergoing a conversion in the northern German port city. It features a 25-meter pool and two helipads, and is valued at between €550 million and €687 million, according to the US Treasury Department. Her measurement resulted in a gross tonnage (GT) of approximately 15,500, making her the largest yacht in the world.

The German Federal Bureau of Investigation (BKA) said on Wednesday that despite attempts to carry out an “offshore cover-up”, it had been determined that the owner of the yacht was Usmanov’s sister Gulbakhor Ismailova.

“The luxury yacht Dilbar therefore falls under the sanctions law and can be legally confiscated in Hamburg,” the BKA said in a tweet. The dpa news agency quoted a BKA spokesperson as saying the yacht “cannot be sold, leased or pledged as security”.

Sixth richest Russian
Superyachts and other signs of Russia’s elite wealth have come under scrutiny since the country’s invasion of Ukraine. Usmanov has a major stake in USM, a Russian investment group with interests in Metalloinvest, one of the world’s largest iron ore producers, and telecom company MegaFon. With a fortune of $19 billion, he would be the sixth richest Russian. The yacht is named after its mother.
